EHS art teacher Laura Flagg purchased two new pottery wheels and stools for her students who work with clay. With these two new wheels, students get more practice throwing pottery (it's not as easy as it looks) and creating 3D pieces for their art portfolios. Pictured is senior Colton Wimberly trying out one of the new wheels for the first time.

Next time you're at Eastlake, check out the student creations in the art display case (located in the Commons by the staircase near the auditorium entrance). Last year Mrs. Flagg used grant funds to purchase the display case to show off work from the new 3D art class. We think it's safe to say that the 3D art class is a big hit with our students!

Your donations also helped fund eight digital cameras for Digital Photography and Video Production classes. Students who take a photography class don't always have their own camera; being able to work with up-to-date camera equipment allows students to use current technology to edit photos and learn the latest techniques. Teacher Louis Staples wrote: "Students learn the functions and mechanics of the cameras, and apply this learning to develop their own personal work in Photography and Video Production.” The cameras also "provide the opportunity for students to be creative while using technology and gaining 21st century skills.”

The photography classes have grown in popularity so much that two teachers now provide instruction for these classes. With seven periods next year, they expect to see more students taking photography.  Mr Staples hopes to be able to add additional cameras to their classroom next fall.
