Thanks to a PTSA grant, the Eastlake band was able to purchase a new euphonium.  EHS junior Nathan Ford (below) is a lucky student who gets to play this new instrument.  Here’s what Nathan says about the euphonium:

"The euphonium sounds like a trombone, but its tone is deeper with the larger bell.  It’s easier to play faster notes due to having valves versus the slide [on the trombone].  I play trumpet, trombone, tuba and euphonium.  I think it’s more fun to play euphonium...I like it the best because it’s unique, and no one else was playing it when I started.  Next year, we’ll have 11 euphonium players in the Eastlake band. We needed a new one because other ones often break down, so we’re always missing them while they’re being repaired.  It’s really nice to have one that works.  They’re very expensive, so only a couple of people actually own one.”

And did you know?  "...our euphonium players took the top three places at Solo & Ensemble this year, so we’re the best in the district.”
